Duties and activities

The primary duty of the Chancellor of Justice is to promote the implementation of the Rule of Law as prescribed by the Constitution of Finland. The Chancellor of Justice also oversees the realisation of fundamental and human rights. This duty entails the handling of complaints as well as observations made through inspections and otherwise. The duty to oversee the realisation of fundamental and human rights is also embedded in the Chancellor of Justice’s activities pertaining to the supervision of the Government’s decision-making processes.
